My First Year at Somerby

One year ago today I spent my first night at Somerby and this is my "thank you" for a wonderful year. You've surrounded yourself with an excellent staff, all of whom are a joy, pleasant and competent. Let's just say I love it here and enjoy telling people so!

I have lived at Somerby for 3 years and I find everyone to be very cooperative, polite and pleasant. The food service is very good. The housekeeping staff does an excellent job. One of the many things I have enjoyed and appreciated is the creation of the Resident Wildflower and Vegetable Garden. I would recommend anyone to come and live here.

Somerby of Mobile is the perfect home for my mother. The staff is knowledgeable about caring for elderly residents, especially those with special needs like Alzheimer's and dementia. The quality of the services — accommodations, housekeeping, food service, resident activities, and family interaction with nursing staff and management — has definitely exceeded my expectations and my experience with other senior care facilities. Moving to Somerby of Mobile has been a blessing for my mother and our entire family.

When my daughter and son-in-law drove me in to Somerby of Mobile, I was so impressed with the manicured landscape and the beautiful building. I was even more impressed when I walked through the doors of Somerby and met all the friendly staff and residents. I thought to myself, "Even my mother would love this place, and she was very particular!" But, the best part of it all was when my daughter called me the next morning after my first night at Somerby and told me she had had the best night's sleep she had had since "Daddy" died because she knew I was safe. I have lived here for 2-1/2 years and I have met so many friends through all the great scheduled activities we have. From the first day I walked into the dining room, the residents were so warm and welcoming to me. Also, Somerby has allowed my spiritual life to be maintained by providing Bible study, Somerby church services and transportation to different churches. Lastly, I cannot leave out how professional and friendly the staff at Somerby is. It blows my mind that the wait staff can remember all of our names, and they always remember exactly what beverage we all drink. I just love it here!

After my husband died 3-1/2 years ago, I decided to stay in our home here in Mobile. As time passed, I realized that the upkeep was getting to be too much for me, and I did not feel comfortable being there alone! My decision to move to Somerby was not an easy one, but I have no regrets since moving in. The staff has been gracious and helpful, and the residents have all been so friendly and welcoming to me. I have enjoyed meeting new friends, as well as entertaining old friends in my new Somerby apartment. I know that my dear husband would be happy about my decision! Most of all, I feel safe and secure at Somerby, and my family is so happy that I'm safe and happy!
